Calgary, Alberta: Students learning the business side of the oil and gas industry at SAIT Polytechnic are set to benefit from a $1.5 million software donation from Resource Energy Solutions.
Beginning this month, students in the Energy Asset Management (EAM) Program in the MacPhail School of Energy will be using Wellman and AFE Manager well and asset life cycle data management software in their courses. The software will allow students to apply their knowledge and education from the EAM program into software that is regularly used in industry.
Trent Marx, President and CEO of Resource Energy Solutions, says this is the first partnership his company has developed with a post-secondary institution.
“The donation of industry-standard software technology is an example of business collaborating with an educational institution. This partnership will help to meet the challenge of ensuring our industry has access to a highly-trained and motivated workforce.”
The EAM program focuses on five key disciplines that make up the business side of the industry, including mineral and surface land, wells/facilities asset management, joint ventures, production accounting and operations accounting.
Resource Energy Solutions data management software will be used in seven of the 20 courses required to complete the EAM program.
“This is a significant opportunity for SAIT students to get hands-on training with Wellman and AFE Manager, giving them a high degree of practical experience heading into the workforce,” says Mark Golem, Program Coordinator for Energy Asset Management at SAIT Polytechnic.
SAIT’s Energy Asset Management program was established in partnership with the Centre for Energy Asset Management Studies (CEAMS), an organization established to influence and promote Asset Management skills development for the energy sector.
